Django, Python, & Random Leftovers

Big Nerd Scott

I've been a programmer for Tampa Bay Online (TBO.com) for three years, and the Systems Development Manager there for 18 months. It's been an exciting ride to go from a Perl, ColdFusion, and PHP programmer to a Python and Django aficionado and manager. I've learned a lot about programming, the business of enterprise software development, and how to lead a software development team. I've made some great friends at TBO, learned from some amazing people, and overall had a great time. It was with great difficulty that I made the decision to leave for a great new opportunity.

After ten years of corporate software development, I've decided to go into the world of consulting and business development. I've taken the role of Director of Consulting for the Big Nerd Ranch in Atlanta, GA. They are a uniquely talented group of amazing trainers and programmers; I'm honored that they asked me to come on board and join their merry band. One of the nice perks is that they are Apple-friendly; I'm excited to ditch my BlackBerry for my iPhone, my Dell laptop for my MacBook, and Exchange for iCal and Google Apps.

This should be an exciting year for Cocoa and iPhone development and consulting. I hope to help develop some cool Cocoa projects that use Django and Google App Engine on the backend. I'll be available for Django consulting as of August 1, 2008. If I can help your company, please drop me a line at scott at bignerdranchconsulting dot com. I'll still be working from Tampa and traveling as needed.

If you don't need consulting but want to start getting into these cool technologies, I'd totally recommend taking a class at Big Nerd Ranch. The Python bootcamp class I took was the finest training experience I've had, and I would say that even if they hadn't hired me.
